062 | This is an excellent stone bridge, over the Don, on the leading road from Aberdeen to Strathdon etc. about 26 ¾ miles from Aberdeen, it consists of three good stone Arches, The S. [South] one being 65. links in span, The centre one 85. and the N. [North] 75. The arches are a considerable height from the bed of the River, and capable of passing very large floods; There is an excellent Dam, immediately adjoining the N. [North] end of the bridge. It is much frequented by Tourists in the Summer season. There was formerly a Ferry about 4 chains down the river (Called boat of Forbes) but since the bridge was built it is entirely done away with. |
