001 | A circular mound of earth and Stones situated in field north west of Clenterty farmhouse. It is about 40 feet in diameter, and five ft. [feet] in height, and supposed to be sepulchral. Several cairns of the same description in the vicinity, have been removed and found to contain Stone Cists & Urns. "There are numerous Cairns and Tumuli Scattered through the Parish (Aberdour) Such as have been opened have been found to contain a Rude Stone Coffin, enclosing the bones or ashes of a human body." 001 | This name applies to one of four Cairns said to have been erected over the remains of a murderer named Brodie who was drawn, quartered and part buried at each of the said places. Only two can now be identified, the above on the farm of Clenterty. And the other on the farm of Towie (1.15 trace 3). "There are numerous cairns and tumuli in the Parish of Aberdour, "Three of these known as Brodie's Cairns of which there was originally four." Buchan By The Reverend J. B Pratt. "A Cairn on the farm of Towie (Aberdour Parish) on the estate of Auchmedden, called Brodie's Cairn deserves particular notice. My informant remembers three Cairns of the same name, but with regard to this one in particular, the tradition is as follows. A farmer of the name of Brodie murdered his mother whose body was brought to the gate of the church yard of Aberdour, and every individual in the parish called upon to apply the hand to the naked corpse. * * * The tradition further states that the murderer was drawn and quartered, and that his four limbs were buried on the sides of four roads leading to the Church of Aberdour."
