075 | This building, which externally is very plain is situated immediately behind the Town House with which it is Connected, it was erected between the Years 1818 and 1820. The chief entrance is from Castle Street by a Gothic door and a lobby formed in the Tollbooth tower from the lobby a handsome staircase leads to a vestibule on the first floor 40 feet long and 20 feet wide with a screen of Doric columns. The Court room is of a semi-circular form, on the east side there is a Gallery for the public on the front of which is the following inscription "Servate terminos quos Patres vestri posuere." The room is lighted from the roof and is fitted up with all the necessary accommodation for Justiciary business. besides being used for public meetings of the inhabitants of Town & County, and the Sheriff and other minor courts; it is used twice a Year for the sittings of the Circuit Court of Justiciary. Below the Court House on the ground floor are situated the town police office and Cells, which are entered from Huxter Row. |
