About forty feet from the Street, on the west margin of the walk was discovered an ancient grave, about 6 feet in length and four in breadth. It was rudely built of large unhewn stones, cemented with lime, and Contained the remains of three bodies, one of them, from the appearance of the scull, evidently that of a young person -- Friar John Adams, who seems to have been prior of this Convent from 1503 to 1508. was a learned man and the first graduate of theology in Kings College, eventually became the Principal of the Preaching Friars in Scotland, daring every hazard in support of religion and increasing the number of learn [learned] pious, and active preachers of that order. -- After the Reformation, the whole property which belonged to the Black and White friars, reverted to the Crown. In the Year 1587 George Earl Marischal having acquired right by purchase to the Monastery and Crofts of those friars, obtained from King James VI a Charter Confirming that right, and which be bestowed on his new College in the year 1593 - Some years previously to this. the Earl had disposed of the Manse, barns and ya [yards] of those friars to David Anderson of Finzeach, in whose family Sir John Wright the last prior of the order, was maintained for Several Years. This at length Robert Gordon acquired by purchase and on 13 December 1729 he executed a deed of Mortmain by which he Conveyed his whole property. as a fund for the building and maintenance of his (Gordon's) Hospital -
