075 This noble institution was originally founded on the 1st January 1740. The Town Council granted the ground for the site of the house and garden, and at the same time, resolved to contribute from the public funds under their management, a certain sum annually for the Maintenance of patients in the hospital. After being repeatedly enlarged the old buildings were entirely supplanted by the present beautiful and spacious buildings. The interior arrangements are excellent. The house affords accommodation for 300 Patients, and the medical offices are of the first standing in the City. Patients are admitted, from all the parishes in the surrounding country, which give an annual collection for the support of the institution.
