A Survey of the Rates and Duties on Male Servants arisen in the Burgh of Dundee for one Year
commencing the 5th day of April 1787 ending the fifth day of April 1788 by Daniel Ross Surveyor
I Daniel Ross Surveyor aforesaid do hereby Certify that upon carefull examination of the
foregoing Rates and Duties I find they amount in whole to Twenty One Pounds Five Shillings
Sterling and I do make Oath that notices were left with the Several Inhabitants before named
or at their Dwelling Houses of the respective dates aforesaid requesting then within Fourteen days
to give in a list of the Servants retained or Employed by them from the 5th day of April 1787 to
the 5 day of April 1788 and that the foregoing survey is made out from the lists returned to and
from the best Information also in I could procure of those who of the Male Servants neglected or refused
to return a list thereof in terms of the Nottices left with them aforesaid

I Robert Maughan Assistant Surveyor Aforesaid do hereby Certify that upon Carefull Examination
of the Foregoing Rates & Duties I find they Amount to Six Hundred & Ninty Seven Pounds Fifteen
Shillings Sterling and that upon the Eleventh Day of December Seventeen hundred & Eighty Seven
I delivered to Mr George McQueen Collector of the said Duties for the City of Edinburgh an Exact Duplicate
of the Foregoing Accompt duly examined & Compared which contained my oath that Notices were left
with the Several Inhabitants or at their Dwelling Houses of the Dates annexed to their respective

Elgin from 5th April 1787 to 5th April 1788 by Patrick McDonald Surveyor

I Patrick McDonald Surveyor aforesaid do hereby Certify that upon careful examination of the foregoing Several
rates and duties on Male Servants, I find they amount in whole to Seven pound ten Shillings Sterling and
that upon the Twentieth day of November 1787 I delivered to James Young Collector of said duties for the
Town of Elgin an exact duplicate of the above acct [account] duly examined and compared with the foregoing which
contained my oath that the foregoing inhabitants were duly served with requisition of the dates aforesaid
and that the assessments were made up from the lists and answers now in my possession

A Survey of the Rates and Duties arisen in the Burgh of Forfar for one Year commencing the fifth day
of April 1787 and ending the fifth Day of April 1788 by Daniel Ross Surveyor
I Daniel Ross Surveyor aforesaid do hereby Certify that upon carefull Examination of the foregoing
Duties they amount in whole to one pound five Shilling Sterling and I do make Oath that
Nottice was left with the above mentioned thereon before named or at his Dwelling House of the date
aforesaid requiring him to give in a list of the Servants named or employed by him from the fifth
Day of April 1787 to the 5th day of April 1788 and that the foregoing Survey is made out from
the list returned to me and from the best information I could procure of the Male Servants of those
who neglected or refused to return or list thereof in terms of the Nottices left with them aforesaid

amount in whole to One hundred and Ninety three pounds, Fifteen Shillings Sterling. That upon this Eighteenth Day of December Current
I delivered to John Carlile Collector of the said Duties for the Burgh aforesaid an exact duplicate of the above account duly examined and
Compared with the foregoing which Contained my Oath. That Notices were left with the Several Inhabitants or at their Dwelling houses
of the dates annexed to their respective names, that they were to be charged with the Sums hereby Certified to be due from them

Sterling and that upon the seventh day of Novemr [November] 1787 I delivered to John Carfrae Collector of these Duties in the Royalty of Haddington

sterling And that upon the twenty sixth day of January current I caused to be
delivered to John Blane Esquire an exact duplicate of and duly Examined and

Duties I find they Amount in whole to the Sum of Five pounds Sterling and that upon the Sixteenth day of November
I delivered to Andrew Gullen Collector for the Borough aforesaid an Exact Duplicat of the above Account duly
Examined and Compared with the foregoing which Contained my Oath that Notices were left with the Several

I James Allan Surveyor aforesaid do hereby certify that upon carefule Examination of the
foregoing Rates & duties, they Amount in Whole to Thirteen pounds fifteen Shillings Sterling & that
upon the first Current I delivered to Mr John McGibbon Collector of said duties for the Borough of aforesaid
an exact duplicate of the above Account duly Examined & compared with the foregoing which contained
my Oath that Requisitions were delivered to the several Inhabitants or at their Dwelling Houses of the
several dates annexed to their Names & that they are liable to be charged with the sums Certified to
be due from them

foregoing duty I find it Amounts to One pound five shillings, and that upon the Seventeenth
day of December current I delivered to Mr Alexander Manson present Treasurer & Collector of said
duties for the Burgh aforesaid an exact Duplicate of the above Acct [Account] examined & compared
with the foregoing which contained my Oath that the Above is the only Male Servts [Servants] returned to me or
is kept within the limits of this Burgh lyable to Duty
