A Survey of the Duties on Servants arisen in the Burgh of Arbroath for nine
months from the 5th day of July 1777 to the 25th of March 1778 by William Greig
Surveyor
I William Greig Surveyor aforesaid Do hereby Certify that upon careful examination of the
foregoing duties I find they amount to fifteen shillings; And I do make oath, that upon the
sixth day of May one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine, I delivered to Mr Alexander
Mudie Town Clerk of Arbroath, and Collector of thesaid duties for thesaid Burgh, an exact
duplicate of the above Survey duly examined and compared with the foregoing in order that he
might collect the dutys therein contained, which duplicate was delivered to thesaid Alexander
Mudie personally within his dwelling house in Arbroath about two oclock in the afternoon
of thesaid sixth day of May

contained amount in whole to Twelve pounds fifteen shillings Sterl [Sterling]

the Servants Subject to the payment of the Duty Taxed by the late Act of Parliament, are all mentioned

the Burgh the Names of the Servants Taxed and their several employments with the Duty annexed

A Survey of the Dutie upon Servants,arisen in the Burgh of
Dundee, commencing the 5th day of July 1777, and ending the 25th day of
March there after 1778 by William Greig Surveyor.
I William Greig Surveyor aforesaid Do hereby Certify that upon carefull examination
of the foregoing duties I find they amount in whole to Eight pounds
five Shillings sterling And that upon the .... day of....1779 I delivered
to Mr James Hay Writer in Dundee Collector of the said dutys for the
Burgh aforesaid an exact duplicate of the above Account duly examined &
Compared with the foregoing Conform to his Receipt herewith fixed

I George Ballantyne Assessor aforesaid having made an exact Survey over the whole Burgh
find that the Servants subject to the payment of the Duty Taxed by the late Act of Parliament are all mentioned
and Contiand in the preceding list thereof wrote upon this Page, which contains the Names of the Gentlemen they
Serve in the Burgh, the names of the Servants Taxed and their several Employments with the Duty annexed
to each. From the 5th of July 1777 To the 25th of March 1778 Amounting in whole to the Sum of Two

foregoing several Rates & Duties I find they amount in Whole to Fifteen Shillings and that
upon the 29th day of March 1779 I delivered to Mr David Scott Collector of the said Duties for
the Burgh aforesaid an exact Duplicate of the above Account, duly examined & compared
with the foregoing, which contain my Oath that Notices were left with the several Inhabitants,

From The 5th of July 1777 To the 25th of March 1778 By William Brunton Assessor
I William Brunton Assessor aforesaid having made an exact Survey of the whole Burgh find that
the Servants subject to payment of the Duty Taxed by the late Act of Parliament are all mentioned and
Contained in the above list thereof which contain the Gentlemans Name whom they Serve in the Burgh
the Names of the Servants Taxed, and their several Employments with the Duty annexed to each
From the 5th of July 1777 To the 25th of March 1778. The forsaid Survey being an exact
Duplicate of that sent to John McCarlie Collector of the said Duties for the Burgh aforesaid. Amounting
in whole To the Sum of One Pound Ten Shillings Sterling.
