[Page] 2revise and correct the Books; desiring him, when any difficulty occurred, in the course of the
work, to lay matter before the Committee for their advice and assistance. The Com-
mittee afterwards reported the matter to a General Meeting, held the 7th day of March 1814,
who approved of their proceedings.
Under these circumstances, Mr MACFARLANE submits, as the most eligible plan of pro-
cedure, to assume the Roll 1726 as the TEXT, aided by those of the four following years, by
which the Land-Tax appears to have been collected, aided also by the Roll 1702, and by the
Certified Roll 1738, AND TO TRACE each article of valuation through all the copies downwards
to the present time. He begins, therefore, with the Roll 1726 as the text, copying each Parish
from that Roll, and then draws out a Rectified Roll for the year 1814.
