E106/12/3/3 [Page] 3 The Valuation Book of the Shire of Dumfries was made up and rectified 17th May, 1671; and on 30th April, 1781, a new Valuation Book was made out to that date, containing all the divisions that had taken plane in consequence of acts of the Commissioners of Supply. The following is the Valuation Book of the said Shire, brought down to 6th November, 1787 VALUATION BOOK OF THE SHERIFFDOM OF DUMFRIES; COMPREHENDING THE STEWARTRY OF ANNANDALE, AND FIVE KIRKS OF ESKDALE.

But by an act of the Commissioners of Supply, bearing the date the 30th August 1774, the said sum was disjoined from the cumulo valuation of the estate of Glenae, and it was found and declared, that the proportion thereof falling upon the said several lands, should be as follows, viz.

But about the beginning of the present century, part of Staplegordon was thrown into Westerkirk, and that was erected into two parishes, Called WESTERKIRK and ESKDALEMUIR. The remainder of Staplegordone, with Wauchope, and half of Mortone, were erected into one parish, to be called LANGHOLM, And CANNOBIE, with the other half of Mortone, And EWES, remained as before.
