Edr [Edinburgh] 11 Jul 1694

In presence of The Earle of Linlithgow one of the Lords Comres [Commissioneres] of their Maties [Majesties] Thery [Thesaury] Compeared James Dumbar Younger medr [merchand] in Invernesse SubCollr [SubCollector] of the Hearth Money within the shirreffdome thereof who being solemnly sworn & examined, declared That the forsaid List of hearths Extending to Six thousand Fyve hundred, fourty one which are payed. And Nynty seaven which are deficient & unpayed. Is a just & true List of all the hearths within the forsaid shire to the best of his knowledge. Excepting One hundred & fifty one hearths, belonging to poor people exeemed by Law. And that he hes used his outmost endeavours, Conform to the proclamations of Councell, anent the Ingathering of the Hearth money, To attaine to the knowledge of all the forsd [forsaid] hearths. And that he hes not wittingly nor willingly concealed any, bot given up the samen truely as said is. And this is the truth as he shall answere to God.
