Edr [Edinburgh] 22d Febry 1692 [22 Feb 1692]
Presbyters [Presbyteries] of Forfar & Breechen

In presence of Alexander Lord Raith their Maties [Majesties] Treas [Treasurer]
depute Compeared Thomas Croftis one of the Serjants
in Sr [Sir] James Leslies Regt [Regiment], & George Mcilroy one of the
souldiers in the Leivt Col [Lievtenant Colonel] Company [in the] sd [said] Regt [Regiment] Intrusted
by John Arnot of Balcormack deputy Collr [Collector] of the Hearth
money within the Shire of Forfar, for takeing up an exact
accompt of all the Hearths within that part of the presbetry
of meegill lyeing within the said shire; as also of all the
Hearths within the presbetrys of Forfar & Breechin. Who
being sworn & examined, If that they had taken up a full
& true accompt of the whole hearths within the presbetries
abovespeit [ abovespecefeit] by occular Inspection. Depones That there
were no hearths in houses, Brewhouses Kilns or Smiddies
within the sd [said] Presbetries, That they did not take up by occular
Inspection, ane full & exact accompt throf [thereof], and did Insert
the Number of them in a Book, Given in to the sd [said] deputy
Collr [Collector] . Excepting the Hearths belonging to poor, within
the seall [severall paroches of the sd [said] presbetries empted [exempted] by act of
parliat [parliament] Given up in List by the rexive [respective] Ministers thereof, 'X'
'X' & of such paroches which were not accessable
And that to the best of their knowledge there are no
Hearths omitted by them And this is the Truth as they
shall answer to God.
