033 In describing the old house of Carsegownie the New Statl. [Statistical] Account mentions ''the Castle of Flemington, about a furlong to the east of the church, as a more perfect specimen'' (of defence).
The Castle is at present occupied by persons employed on the Farm of Flemington. It is in good condition in the lower part of the building which has vaulted ceilings but the upper part of it, to which a winding stone stairs leads, is in a ruinous condition although the roof still remains almost entire. By the personal authorities it is considered a Castle, as it is always called, but of its age no information has been obtained.
