123 | This name applies to a very old Castle in Ruins, Situated on a Small Island about 1/4 mile South west from the village of Dornie: and near the Confluence of Loch Alsh, Loch Long and Loch Duich. the property of Alexander Matheson Esqr. M.P. [Member of Parliament] of Ardross. It was formerly the seat of the Mackenzies of Seaforth The New Statistical Account says:- "In the immediate vicinity of the village of Dornie Stand the ruins of the Castle Donnan. It is generally believed to have been built about the time of Alexander III. of Scotland for it was by him presented immediately after the battle of Largs, to Colm Fitzgerald for his distinguished Services in the royal Cause "By Sea & land".
