032 A small Sea Port village on the Eastern Coast of the Parish of KirKmaiden. about 18 miles South of Stranraer, to and from which there is a regular communication by Carrier, in it is a Penny Post Office Established, the Mail is Conveyed daily by a spring Car, Carrying three days of the week Passengers including the mail. The houses are of Superior description from one to two Stories in height. It is supplyed with Grocers, Drapers, Spirit retailers etc. (In it is a Free church built in the year 1843.) The population amounts to about 300 Persons. the greater part of which are Labourers. the Parish church is about ¾ of a mile from the Village. It has a good harbour, which admits Vessels of Considerable burden, and is the property of the Earl of Stair.
