A large and handsome house of Modern construction, the main plan of the house is a plain rectangular building and attached is a plain wing on each side, the entrance to which is by covered passages from the [nearby] building, attached to this house is a large kitchen garden & surrounded by a large portion of ornamental growth & demesne well wooded some of which is full grown, the remainder consists of young plantations at a distance from the house, there is an Extensive [farm] yard, the houses of which are in [middling] repair, there is a new farm yard [now] in progress a little farther from the house there is also a large tract of [land] attached for farming purposes. This place was formerly in the farm of Killumpha which probably took it [name] from a Grave Yard or place of Worship being convenient to this place. Ainslies Map of Scotland. 031 [Situation] About 1 1/4 mile South by W [West] of Logan House. A Bay with good anchorage on the west coast of Kirkmaiden which affords good shelter from the Land side, on the South the land is very high but slopes gradually to high water mark. There is a good but small Quay on this Bay built by the late Col [Colonel] McDowall of Logan and a Grant of Money from Government of Great Britain. It affords good harbourages but the West side of greatly damaged by the Rough Sea sometimes washing up against it & It is a not likely to be repaired, on it is a small circular building which was erected for the intention of a light house, but never has yet been lighted. Port Nessock is the ancient name of this Bay and still retains it. The name of the village has been changed from Port Nessock to Port Logan by the desire of Col [Colonel] McDowall of Logan.

There are three Public houses which can accommodate Travellers & Shops. There is also a Post Office in it and a regular communication by Carrier to & from Stranraer. The Front range of houses are well Sheltered from the sea by the Stranraer road, it being raised by an embankment above the level of the houses. It is situated about 14 miles from Stranraer & 4 miles W [West] of Drumore Village. The property of Col [Colonel] McDowall of Logan. There is a good Quay & Harbour at this village.
