The various Antiquities or objects of interest named on the margin were found on the above Links within a large radius, the various places where they were found have been obliterated by Sand, owing to the nature of the ground. And their having been found in Such large quantities it has been thought prudent to group the whole in one general remark, in fact it is Surmised by many Scientific men that this has at one time been a manufactory of the Articles named. These Articles have been found recently and are found now and again up to the present AD 1873. they are all placed In the Museum of His Grace the Duke of Sutherland, at Dunrobin Castle. |

This name is applied to the site of an old Chapel, situated near Kirkton, part of its wall is still to be seen, and forms part of the wall enclosing the County Road and the burying ground formerly used. The County road leads over the place where it stood. At various times Antiquities were found near the Site of the Old Chapel, viz a large undressed stone found 5 feet under ground with a rude device as of an ancient galley, the date and the object of it are alike unknown, it now stands a little to the east of Dunrobin Castle There was lately dug up the handle of a balance, with some of the weights, both of brass, and of neat and curious workmanship, and in very good preservation. They are supposed to have belonged to the Old Chapel. These together with some thick rings of brass wood and other materials, in diameter from half an inch to one and a half found in the same vicinity are now in Dunrobin Castle. The Chapel was transported from Culmalie to Golspie A.D. 1619 (Extracts from the Statistical accounts) "There was also found near Kirkton a Sculptured Stone. Early Christian taken 30 years ago to Golspie Church, and now in Dunrobin Museum. The places where the various articles mentioned above were found cannot be pointed out.
