Supposed Remains of FORT [Ben Griam Bheag] 046 On and near the Summit of this eminence are a number of broken down walls, built of large Stones, without morter. These walls are from three to five feet thick, and are believed to have formed a kind of fortification, which is very probable from the Strength and Situation of the different erections. Nothing, however, is known about them, nor at what period they were built. Several battles, between the Clans were fought in this vicinity, but I am inclined to think that these fortifications belonged to a more ancient race. In 1506 an engagement took place, on the South west Slope of this eminence, near Airidh Dhamh, between the Clans, Gunn, and Sinclair, where the former were defeated, and chased to the top of Ben Gream More. Where on the following day they were joined by the Clan Mackay, who along with the Gunns attacked the Sinclairs on the South east Slope of Ben Gream more, The Sinclairs were defeated and put [Continued page 308]

Griam:- most people spell it Gream
which is most like the pronunciation, and
agrees with the fist part of Greamachcarry
which also is no doubt of the Same origin
The one I believe means Graham's
Mountain, & the other Graham's
Sheiling
