131 A Stream or drain also a remarkable feature, or stripe of Rough pasture running through Flanders Moss from Pollabay to Cardross, adjacent to the South Side of it, about 45 years ago, George Fisher says, there were 2 swords lying in a cross position found, whilst digging for peats, one of which was sent to Edinburgh and the other to the House of Cardross. Also near the same place, about 2 or 3 feet below the surface several beams or planks about 12 or 14 feet long which seemed to have been the formation of a road were thrown up. These he Says were supposed to have been the remains or part of the Road which had led through Flanders Moss
"A Roman causeway has been discovered, running in a direction from south-east to north-west along the bottom of Moss Flanders. which covers an extent of several miles. In the banks of Goody Water which runs along the North-east side of this Moss, Several Oak trees of a very large size, appear projecting about 20 feet below the surface: And where this water joins the Forth, one of these trees, the trunk of which is near 6 feet Diameter appears at the same depth, below the surface, projecting nearly 20 feet."
