098 [Situation] At the north end of Fountain Close.
The site of the old house is pointed out as having an entrance to it from the South Street by Fountain Close. It stood a few yards in to east side of the Watergate. When and by whom it was built are both unknown but it is shewn on three plans of Perth dated respectively 1765 1774 & 1792 as classed with the antiquities of the town. There are many persons still living who remember this old house before it was demolished. It was used in latter times as a school house.
"The Bishop of DunKeld his house was near to the same place and had an entrance from the South Street probably by what is called the Fountain Close" New Stat. Acct.[Statistical Account] of Perthshire p. [page] 57
