This building from alterations it has undergone may now be said to be of the modern Style of architecture and for the last 3 or 4 years has not been used in consequence of its dilapitated state.

STATUE OF THE EARL OF MORTON AND HIS LADY [Dalkeith Church] Abridged Ext: [Extract] from Stat: Acct [Statistical Account]
"One of the principal objects of Antiquarian in the parish is the Ancient choir attached to the Parish Church, it is 44 ft [feet] long by 27 ft [feet] wide and is built in a more ornamental style than the body of the Church. It contains within its area the statue of one the Earls of Morton & his lady reclining on a pedestal, it has long been unroofed but is worthy of careful preservation as a venerable relic of the olden time. "
