027; 028; 034; 035 | The name of this parish seems to be taken from that of the Proprietor of that ilk. Others derive the name from the Gaelic Dunis, which signifies a hill or rising ground; and it is indeed, on a ground pretty much elevated above the River South Esk. The parish is bounded on the West by the parish of Brechin; on the north by Logie Pert; on the east by Montrose; and on the South & South West by the parishes of Craig and Maryton. New Stat [Statistical] Account. The only antiquities in the Parish are Dun Castle & the Old parish Church. The Scottish North Eastern Railway to Aberdeen passes through the Parish and a Branch of the same line to Brechin runs also thro' [through] this parish to the Bridge of Dun on plan 34.4 |
