Airlie Castle Continued. | [continued from page 9] on every side but the south, on which it had been secured by a ditch and drain more than 20, perhaps 30 feet wide, and a wall (the front of the Castle) 10 feet thick and 35 feet high. At what time it was built, is not so certain, as that it was destroyed by the Marquis of Argyll in 1640, which was repaired in kind by the Marquis of Montrose and the Royalists a few years afterwards.
