Mr. David Duncan Jeweller Cupar
[situation] South side of Kirkgate.
A large Commodious building erected in the year 1785 by the Heritors of the Parish in a very plain and substantial manner & on the site of the Old Parish Church of Cupar which according to Sibbald's History of Fife " was built by the prior of St. Andrews in the year 1415, he further states, it is to be regretted that the new building was not joined to the spire of the old Church which still stands. The Vestry Session house by intervening between the Church and spire gives a detached and awkward appearance to both - The Spire has always been considered a very handsome structure and appears light and elegant when viewed from the East & West." It has a large grave yard attached immediately South of it; the Church contains sittings for 1350 persons, the Communicants of the parish amount to 1600 who are divided between this Church and its Quod Sacra of St. Michaels. The officiating Ministers at present are the Revd. [Reverend] James Cochrane 1st and the Revd. [Reverend] James Worddy 2nd. Minister with a yearly Salary of about £280 each, £30 for Communion elements and a Manse Garden and small Glebe for the 1st Minister. Both are vested in the patronage of the Crown.
