The site of vaults which formed part of the castle or Baronial residence of a branch of the Family of the Douglas at the presents day it cannot be ascertained whether it was a castle or not my informant an old man of about 80 years of age could not say which but that it used to go by the name of the vaults when standing, it was surrounded by a high wall but of no strength & would therefore suppose that it was only a Baronial residence with the lower apartments having vaulted roofs which these mansions generally had there is no appearance of a ditch or any fortifications about it |
