015 | [Situation] A few chains S. [South] East of Yester. An ancient church situated near the mansion house of Yester It is a small but very handsome building. The nave bears date 1635 but the transept is more ancient, the pulpit which is made of beautifully carved oak and said to be more than 400 years old, it was removed to the present church of Yester where it now still is. The church is now used as a burial place by the family of Yester house, "The church, originally called St Bathan's and afterwards called Yester was, in 1421 restored to its old name, and, at the same time, converted by Sir William Hay into a Collegiate establishment for a provost 6 prebendaries and 2 singing boys. The Reformation upset the Collegiate establishment and placed the church in a simple parochial position under the revived name of Yester" see Fullarton Gazetteer. |
