003.05 A prominent hill rising about 200 feet above Sea level there is no doubt that a vitrified fort stood on the Sumit of this hill. altho [although] the present generation do not remember seeing it. it was no doubt destroyed many years since, but large portions of the vitrified matter have been got and can still be found here, placing it beyond a doubt that a fort of this kind existed the remains of the fosse is still visible and in a pretty good state of preservation but there are no traces of triple walls or ditches as stated with statistical account.
"On the eastern bank of the water of Cullen and overhanging the Sea-town, an eminence, called the Castle hill, rises in a conical form, to the height of upwards of 200 feet above the level of the sea. In remote ages it appears to have been crowned with a vitrified castle or fort, which had been guarded by a triple wall and ditch. These have long [continued on page 19]
