004.10 ; 004.11 A fishing village, on the sea shore, about 2½ miles west of Banff - it contains a Free Church & Manse, a General Assembly's School, a Post Office, an Inn, two or three good Street, and number of fishermens huts. The population are chiefly engaged in fishing, White fish, herring, lobsters, Crabs, and also Salmon fishing. There is an extensive brick and tile manufactory in the vicinity.
HARBOUR [Whitehills] 004.11 There is a small but safe harbour at the village, having a depth of 11 feet of water at Spring tides, affording accommodation to small coasting Vessels for the exportation of fish, and the importation of Coals Salt &c. The Earl of Seafield is its superior.
