208 A large arm of the sea cutting north eastward into the island of Islay from opposite Mull of Oa and Portnahaven to near Bridgend a distance of about fourteen miles. The island of Islay "is indented from the southwest, or northeastward to the very centre by an arm of the sea called Lochindaal which divides great part of it into two peninsulas. The middle of the east side of Lochindaal expands into a capacious bay called the Bay of Laggan which is terminated on the south by the Mull of Oa" Extract from Fullartons Gazetteer
