I Mr William Archbald colector of the hearth money within south and north Leithes Cannongaite and Cannongaitehead and westkirk Heirby Declair vpon my solume oath In presence of the Lordes of their Maties [Majesties] Thesaurie That the List of hearthes contained in this book Extending to Fyve Thousand Ane Hundreth and Eightie one qch [quhich] are payed and Tua Thousand One Hundreth fiftie one qch [quhich] are unpayed is A trew and just List of all the hearthes within the forsaid bounds to the best of my knouledge Amounting to Four Parochins Excepting Tua Hundreth and Tuentie Eight hearthes of poor And tht [that] I have vsed the outmost of my indevour to come to the knouledge of all the hearthes of the saids parochins And that I have not wittinglie nor willinglie concealled any But given vp the samen as said is As I shall ansr [answer] to God

In presence of the Earles of Cassillis & Breadalbane Compeired mr william Archibald wryter in Eht [Edinburght] Collector of the hearth money in south & north Leith Cannongate Westkirk parochine & toune of Eht [Edinburght] without The walls being sworne & examined declared that the forsd [forsaid] List of hearths within The above wtne [writtene] parochins Extending To the number of hearthes payed To fyve Thousand one hundred & Eightie one or thrby [therby] and The number of deficients within The sds [saids] bounds Extending Tuo thousand and nyntie hearths or thrby [therby] and The number of Tuo hundred and Tuentje eight hearth belonging To poore or thrby [therby] qch [quhich] are exeemed be law is ane True List of all The hearthes within the forsds [forsaids] parochins & towne of Eht [Edinburght] without the walls To the best of his knowledge and That he hes used his outmost endeavour conforme To the proclamane [proclamatione] of Councill anent jngathering of the sd [said] hearth money To attaine To the knowledge of all The hearthes within the forsd [forsaid] bounds and That he hes not wittinglie nor willinglie concealed any but given wp The samen Truly as sd [said] is and This is the Truth as he shall ansswer To god
