Somewhat less than 1/4 mile North by East of the
farm of Leithenhall and on the Southern end
of a ridge looking down Annandale are the
remains of a circuar enclosure which has
suffered greatly from the action of the plough.
It appears to have been surrounded by a
single rampart now merely a slight swelling
on the surface and has been hollowed by
excavation in the interior to a depth of some
4 to 5 feet on the North or higher side and
about 2 ft. [feet] on the lower. It appears to have
been approximately circular measuring
interiorly 170 ft. [feet] by 159 ft. [feet].
About 1/4 mile due North of the last and
now entirely planted over with trees are the
remains of a similar enclosure which has
likewise been considerably dug out in the
interior. Though not now measurable it is
shown on the 25" O.S. [Ordnance Survey] map as an oval
surrounded by a single rampart and
measuring 150 ft. [feet] by 112 ft. [feet].
Fort Dundoran
In the North end of Dundoran Plantation which
crowns the Southern termination of the long
hog backed ridge of Dundoran are the re:
:mains of an elliptical fort at an elevation of
800 ft. [feet] over sea level, now represented by
