Mound "Torran Dubh"
About 150 yds. [yards] SE. [South East] of the farm of [--]
and 1 M. [Mile] SE [South East] of Mains of Brims on the E [East] side
of the farm road is a grassy mound which
is probably a cairn. Its longest axis is NW [North West] &
SE. [South East] and it measures some 93' x 47'. Its
elevation is about 5'. It is overgrown
with vegetation and has been under culti:
:vation.

Brims Castle (3)
This castle is situated on the top of the rocks
on the W. [West] side of the ?Brims Burn where it flows
into the sea. It is now occupied as part of a
farm house. The keep is a small rectangular
building measuring over all 23' x 19'.6"
with a square tower 10'.6" square containing a newel stair
projecting Northwards at the N.E. [North East] angle. The thickness of
the walls at the basement is 4'.6". The tower
is two storeys in height & contains a single room on each floor. It is finished with
a span roof and crow-stepped gables. At the
point of junction of the stair tower with the
main building on the E [East] is a small rounded
turret supported on continuous mouldings
finished with an upper ornamented band of chequers.
The entrance has been from the first floor
giving access to the staircase.
