to have belonged to the Earl of Glenorchy and
which at a later date was the town house of
the Murrays of Clairden. It is oblong on plan
72' in frontage with a wing projecting
15'.4", and 19' in width, from near the middle of
the back wall. The entrance is from the
middle of the E [East] front and there is a slight
portico with moulded joints and lintel.
The house is 2 storeys in height and the gables
are finished with crow steps. Inside is
said to be a fine mantlepiece and a
panelled room but to neither was I able
to obtain access. (See plan in note book).

Broch. Scrabster Hill (7)
In a grass park on the N. [North] side of the road
from Thurso to Reay and about 3/4 m. [mile] W. [West] of
Scrabster House is a grassy mound con:
:taining a broch. The mound is encircled
by a ditch 32' in width and 8' - 9' in depth
with a bank formed of the upcast above
the counterscarp. From the top of the
scarp rises a parapet wall or rampart
now some 3' in height and some 20' in
rear of it has been situated the tower.
The ruin is entirely overgrown with grass
and measures some 73' in diameter and
4'-5' in elevation. The depression on the
