[3) Marquis of Huntly seizes Aberdeen (March 1644) but soon forced to abandon it. [4) Marquis of Montrose seizes Dumfries, but forced to retreat into England. [5) Alasdair MacColla sails with Irish confederate expeditionary force from Wexford to Ardnamurchan, June to July 1644. After seeking support from anti-covenanter clans joins Montrose at Blair Atholl, July to August 1644. [6) Montrose campaigns, August 1644 to August 1645 (shown in the next two ~ (] maps).
