029 a small but safe harbour on the coast of luce bay, situated close to the west side of port william village, erected by sir william maxwell of monreith in the year 1800. it is sufficiently commodious, on all sides but the south, it is well sheltered by the land; on the south it is defended by an artificial rampart or strong wall, and it easily admits vessels of 200 tons burden. the vessels belonging to it are 12 in number, and agregately about 750 in tonnage. large quantities of agrecultural produce are shipped for liverpool,fleetwood & lancaster, imports are lime, guanno,bones%coals. harbour dues are 2d per ton. paid to sir william maxwell
