017 [Situation] - About the centre of the Parish-
A village containing in 1841 a population of 821 Souls. it lies on the side of a little glen or [valley] about one mile and a half from the most inland point of the Bay of [Luce] and on the Public Road leading from Newtonstewart to Stranraer.

" It has a Post Office, and the mail Coach running between Dumfries and [Portpatrick]
passes through it daily. There are 3 Places of Worship in the Town, one is of the
established Church of Scotland, one belonging to the Free Kirk, and one to a
Body of Presbyterians called the "Seceders".
A Cattle Market is held near Glenluce ; on the first Friday of every Month
from April to December The Earl of Stair, and Sir J.D.Hay Bart. [Baronet] are the [Superiors of the Village]
