[South West] Side of the town of Stranraer on the west side of Church Street A handsome Stone edifice of the Gothic Style of architecture the foundation was laid in 1838 and the building completed in may 1841 the cost of erection was £2400 which Sum was raised by - It Contains 1050 Sittings (Including gallery) The living Consists of £126 paid by the government and £30 in lieu of a manse also the town council pays £24 there are also 33 acres of land near the town which is generally called the "Glebe" and was formerly bequeathed to the minister of Stranraer and his successors by the Revd. [Reverend] Walter of Laurie of Reid Castle who was Sometime previously minister of Stranraer the annual value of this land with its farm house &. (it being let as a farm) is from £60 to £70.- |
