016 [Situation] At the N.W. [North West] Side of the town of Stranraer
A Considerable village or Suburb on the north of Stranraer its Shape is nearly that of a Crescent Situated close on the western shore of Loch Ryan part of the village consists of rows of houses on both Sides of [the] Street and partly of a Single row. The [Street] is macadamised but much neglected as [for] cleanliness &c, as there is little thoroughfare [in] this Street. The worKing people are chiefly fishermen with Some agricultural [labourers] there are Some provision Shops & two public houses. In the village is also [a] free church & school in connection [with it]

016 [Situation] on the East side of Clay Hole
A bank of Sand & Shingle [projecting] a distance into Loch Ryan it nearly [is] covered at Spring tides it is [caused] by the action of the tides formerly a [sort] of wharf or rudely constructed Boat quay had been constructed here but [ at] present it is nearly defaced. the bank [was] used by fishermen for hauling their boats [up] on it is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station. Called "Clayhole"
