016 | A large Stone building about three Stories high with two Towers on the North Side (which is facing Lough Ryan) and Battlements on the East and West ends the whole having a castellated appearance but of a modern Construction, on the north and South of the building there is Some pieces of neat pleasure ground and a Fish pond in the North Side the only Office houses attached is a porters lodge and Coach house which is a few perches distant from the building and has also Towers on the North ends of them The garden is outside the wall that encloses the castle and pleasure ground. it is onl;y a plain Kitchen garden The castle is Situated on the East Suburbs of Stranraer and is the property and Occasional residence of Sir John Ross Arctic Navigator, but occupied at present by Mr. Alexander McNeil Caird |
