016 A Small Village of houses on both sides of the old Road from Stranraer to PortpatricK. S.[South] West Suburb of Stranraer. I cannot find out how this place derived its name Probably from the Small Stream Crossing the Road near these houses. Which before it was widened flooded the low lying Ground at this place. And Perhaps there was no Bridge on the Road when this Place got the name William Buchanan says that this Place took its name from the Small Stream & Bridges Conveneant to the houses. From its being flooded or dirty.
Foulford is on the Sheuchan Estate the property of Robert Vans Agnew Sheuchan & Baranbarrach Houses chiefly of An inferior description . Inhabitants Labours & Weavers Etc.
