[Situation] In the N.W. [North West] portion of the parish of Leswalt About 6 miles N.W. [North West] from the town of Stranraer and about 6 miles North from Portpatrick & about 1 1/8 miles W by N [West by North] from Lochnaw Castle
A considerable pile of Building in ruins apparently once a place of Strength. the wall though roofless are standing there origl. [original] height, but in several parts broKen and falling into decay It was first built by a family of the name of Adair who was then Proprietor of some of the adjoining Lands. It now belongs to Sir A. Agnew of Lochnaw & has been the Property of his Ancestors since about the years 1316 or 1318. The Summit of the southern Gable is a Trig [Trigonometrical] Point named by Trig [Trigonometrical] Party Galnoughmoor Old Castle
The Ruins of this old castle fall entirely on Plan 9-B The Trigl. ◬ [Trigonometrical Station] between the two Plans being on the Southern Gable - |

The building is kept in good repair and is a handsome mansion Surrounded by Gardens and pleasure grounds, and a large demain well wooded with full grown woods and some young thriving plantations ornamental parks &c. on the South Side and near it is Lochnaw Loch a beautiful Sheet of water with some small islands well wooded Around, the shores are also well wooded ornamented by the pleasure Grounds of Lochnaw |

An ancient fort or encampment on a Precipitous point of land close to the Sea Shore from the peculiar Shape of this point there was but a narrow neck of land to be defended which was closed by three mounds part of these mounds are Still Standing & probably from their resembling graves gave rise to the name Camps Graves whether this fort was Roman Danish &c. has not been ascertained Sir Andrew calls it a Roman encampment. the above mentioned gentleman on whose land it is Situate has made some alteration about it by constructing walks &c. around the precipice near it is a bathing cottage belonging to the Same gentleman. |

And I should think of Danish Construction from its close resemblance to earth mounds or fences throwen up round Some of these Forts in Ireland, nature has done a great deal for this place in respect of Strength. from its particular Situation . Being on a tolerable elevated head land . the West of Which falls very Steep towards the Sea. The South Side is also very Steep falling off towards A deep glen & stream. the North East Side of this Enclosure where it is Approached from the Main land . Three of these lines ar Still visible where the Abbut from the west Steep But as they have been BroKen through by Cultivation there is three Mounds Left standing where the inhabitants thinks the dead are Buried hence. Part of the name Graves. From the west steep round to the end of the South Steep there is A Broad green walk. which the inhabitant Calls the [Cannon ]Race. At the foot of the West [Streep] there is A Bathing Cottage Belonging to the proprieter of the Land Sir A. Agnew. Bt. [Baronet] who has the West [Sloap] laid out in walks some of which [Tops] the Steep & Joines the fort. This place is on the Farm of Meickle Larbrax. And Conveniant to the Sea Shore. The daly atendance of cholars is about 50 . The School Master is alowed £15 Per Anam from the Parish Heritors. Together with the quarterly fees from the scholars Larbrax Chool House was built in the Year 1843. Which is Cutt on Stone above the School Room Porch. Situated close to the South Side of the Road from Kirkcolm to Portpatrick And on the farm of Larbrax the property of Sir A. Agnew Is not a Parish school. But mearly An Accomodation one |
