ROB GIBB'S or CARRIBBER CASTLE (Continued) | [Continued from p13] Carribber Castle Contd (continued) a little narrower than the Castle and seems to have been a Court Yard, but the space between the walls of both it and the Castle are thickly planted with wood. It is familiarly called "Rob Gib's Castle". Rob Gib was Court Jester to James VI who made him a present of it and also granted him a Charter for it which Charter is still in existence amongst the records of Linlithgow. In the glen near the edge of the Avon is a mineral spring said to have been much resorted to in former times for its medicinal qualities, but it has long been neglected and is now nearly choked up with filth. The Castle is the property of W. Blair Esqre. Avontoun. |
