010 [situation] In the South corner of the parish of KirKliston
A large house three stories high, nothing of which but the bare walls are standing. According to tradition, it is supposed to have been an ancient hunting seat of the Kings of Scotland. The Earl of Buchan says that James VI was the only King that used it for that purpose. There are two rows of cottages, one story, with offices and thrashing machine all in good repair. They are close to the old house and bear the same name. There is a garden and a large arable farm attached. Tenanted by James Wilkie. The property of the Earl of Hopetoun. The cottages are occupied by agricultural laborers.
