022.07 The only remains of this ancient Stronghold now existing are, - part of what appears to have been a Square tower and two portions of the South wall - these are only a few feet high - and the moat or ditch, which is in good preservation - 15 feet deep and about 30 wide.
"Near its source" (the Carron) "Stands an old ruinous building, called Graham's Castle, which is commonly said to have been the birth-place and residence of the brave Sir John de Graham, who was slain in the battle of FalKirK, in the end of the thirteenth century. It is situated upon the brow of a hill, and has been strongly fortified according to the custom of those times, with a deep ditch and a draw-bridge. It often afforded a retreat to the celebrated Sir William Wallace, when he stood in need of a little breathing in the midst of his toilsome adventures". History of Stirlingshire by the Rev [Reverend] William Nimmo.
