031.09 | A small village Situate about 4½ miles to the South-east of the town of Falkirk, the inhabitants of which are Chiefly Colliers as it is placed in the centre of an extensive mining district. It derived its name from that Celebrated hero of Scotland, Sir William Wallace, from his having Carried a considerable large Stone from the Stream which separates the parish of Polmont from that of Muiravonside, to a rising ground for the purpose of viewing the first battle of Falkirk. The houses are one story in height partly thatched and Slated and in tolerable good repair. Property of the Duke of Hamilton. |
