031.10 | A single line of Railway, extending from the eastern terminus of the Ballochney Railway, in the parish of New Monkland to a point on the side of the Union Canal at Causewayend near the Almond Iron Works, its length being 12½ miles. the line was opened in the autumn of 1840 for mineral traffic, since the opening of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, however, the line has been connected with it by a short continuation, now known as the Slamanan Junction Railway, and both mineral and passenger traffic is now carried on, the cuttings and embankments throughout this parish are unimportant.
