031.06 ; 031.10 ; 031.11 A double line of Railway extending from Edinburgh to Glasgow, in length 46 miles. there is about 2 miles of this railway in the parish of Muiravonside, the principal feature of which is a stupendous viaduct of 20 arches, which is built across the River Avon, some of these arches being as much as 90 feet high. it was opened for traffic in 1841. Railways to Slamanan, Boness, Shield Hill and Monklands branch from the line in this parish.
