028.02 This School is supported by the Parish, with the exception of the interest of a small sum of money bequeathed by John Patrick about 140 years ago, and held by Capt [Captain] Gartshore for the use of the School, On the front of "Queenziemill" is a tablet on which is carved the following:
"John Patrick Merchant bequithed for the use of this School £60.0.0. He died at London. Anno 1720 Aged 58 years"
"In the Western Barony at a place still called "Chapelgreen" there was anciently a Chapel" Old Statistical Account
The site of this Chapel cannot now be pointed out as the oldest inhabitants of the district state that, though aware of one having existed there, they have no recollection of any remains to mark its whereabouts, The same may be said of a Tumulus, which is also mentioned in the Old Statistical Account, "Near a place called "Chapelgreen" in which an Urn and Ashes were found."
