024.09 | An extensive River which rises near the roadside and about midway, between the villages of Campsie and Fintry. This river in the early part of its course passes through the Carron Bog, an extensive tract of Meadow land which is flooded by it during heavy rains. After emerging from Carron Bog, it rushes over Auchenlily-linn-spout, and coursing eastward gives motion to a number of Mills, Print Works &c until arriving at Larbert, where a large dam is constructed across it and the principal portion of its water conducted by a Canal to the Carron Iron Works, giving motion to all the machinery connected with the different departments of it. A little below these Works the water again joins the river, and from this point in its confluence with Firth of Forth at Grangemouth, it is navigable to vessels of small burden. |
