027.08 This upon the authorities quoted, is the old Well of "St. Machanus", which is now partly covered over by a flagstone. The name has been handed down to the authorities mentioned, & it is very probable that it is as old as the church which stood at the place shewn in the Burying ground of the old Parish church. The well contained an excellent spring, which was in some measure destroyed by conveying water from it to the Clachan. There is nothing very remarkable about "St. Machanus'" well except the name. The depth is not more than 4 feet The water is very clear.
