025.09 | A small but remarkable river which takes its rise in Carron Bog near the western extremity of the county. During the upper half of its course it flows among bleak hills and rocks, and over a precipice above twenty feet called Auchinlilly-linn-spout. It then winds its way over a cultivated country where its waters are turned to advantage by giving motion to several large paper mills near Denny. A few miles further eastwards its waters are conveyed into the great reservoir at the celebrated "Carron Works". It forms the parish boundary between Falkirk & Larbert and at Carronshore, to which it is navigable for small vessels, it assumes the proportions of a river and from thence to its confluence with the Firth of Forth below Grangemouth it is called River Carron. Its whole length is fourteen miles. |
